Key Scripture
«”Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” — James 1:21 (KJV)»
God’s Word has the power to transform lives, but it can only accomplish its work in hearts that are willing to receive it. James reminds us that before we embrace God’s Word, we must be willing to lay aside everything that hinders our relationship with Him. Just as a farmer removes weeds before planting good seed, we must allow God to remove attitudes, habits, and sins that prevent His truth from taking root in our lives.
The apostle speaks of receiving the Word with meekness. Meekness is not weakness; it is a humble and teachable spirit. It is the attitude that says, “Lord, Your ways are higher than mine. Teach me, correct me, and shape me according to Your will.” A proud heart argues with God’s Word, but a humble heart welcomes it, even when it challenges personal opinions or exposes hidden faults.
James also describes God’s Word as the engrafted or implanted Word. When God’s truth is planted deep within us, it begins to produce lasting change. It renews our minds, strengthens our faith, guides our decisions, and helps us become more like Christ. Transformation does not happen overnight, but every time we receive and obey God’s Word, He continues His work in us.
In a world filled with countless voices competing for our attention, it is easy to become influenced by ideas that draw us away from God. That is why we must continually return to Scripture and allow it to shape our thoughts, attitudes, and actions. The Word of God is not merely information to be studied; it is life to be lived.
Today, approach God’s Word with an open heart. Let Him speak to you, encourage you, correct you, and strengthen you. As His truth takes deeper root in your life, you will discover that His Word is not only able to guide you through today but also to prepare you for eternity.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your living Word. Give me a humble heart that is willing to receive Your truth without resistance. Remove anything in my life that keeps me from growing closer to You. Plant Your Word deeply within me, and let it transform my thoughts, my character, and my actions. Help me not only to hear Your Word but also to live it every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
