Walk with the Wise

Posted on July 22, 2026 harun By harun
Key Scripture

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” — Proverbs 13:20 (KJV)

Every journey in life is influenced by the people who walk beside us. Whether we realize it or not, our friendships, mentors, and daily companions shape our thinking, our choices, and ultimately our future. Solomon gives us a timeless principle: if we walk with the wise, we will grow in wisdom. If we choose the company of fools, we will eventually suffer the consequences of their influence.

Wisdom is more than knowledge; it is the ability to live according to God’s truth. Wise people fear the Lord, seek His guidance, and make decisions that honor Him. When we spend time with such people, their love for God, their integrity, and their godly example inspire us to pursue the same path. Their words encourage us, their counsel protects us, and their lives remind us of what truly matters.

The opposite is equally true. Those who reject God’s wisdom often influence others toward compromise, careless living, and spiritual decline. Foolishness has a way of spreading through constant association. What once seemed unacceptable can gradually become normal if we surround ourselves with people who disregard God’s ways. That is why Scripture repeatedly urges believers to be discerning about their relationships.

This principle applies not only to our close friends but also to the voices we allow into our lives through books, music, entertainment, and social media. Every influence is shaping us into someone. The question is whether it is leading us closer to Christ or farther away from Him.

Today, thank God for the wise people He has placed in your life. Learn from their example, value their counsel, and seek opportunities to grow alongside them. At the same time, ask the Lord to help you become a wise companion to others—someone whose words, actions, and faith point people toward Christ. As you walk with the wise, you will find yourself growing in wisdom, strength, and spiritual maturity.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of godly wisdom. Surround me with people who encourage me to love You more and to walk faithfully in Your ways. Give me discernment in choosing my companions, and help me to be a source of encouragement and wisdom to others. May my life reflect Your truth and lead others closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

Who are the people influencing your life the most? Are they helping you grow in wisdom and your relationship with God, or is it time to seek companions who will strengthen your faith?
