Choose Your Company Wisely

Posted on July 19, 2026 harun By harun
Key Scripture

“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” — 1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV)

The people we spend the most time with have a profound influence on who we become. Whether we realize it or not, conversations, friendships, and daily associations shape our attitudes, values, and decisions. That is why the apostle Paul gives this clear warning: “Be not deceived.” He knew that many people underestimate the power of influence until they begin to drift away from God.

Bad company does not always appear dangerous. Sometimes it comes in the form of friendships that slowly weaken our commitment to Christ. It may be voices that normalize sin, encourage compromise, or make us feel that wholehearted devotion to God is unnecessary. Spiritual decline often happens gradually, one small compromise at a time.

On the other hand, godly relationships strengthen our faith. They encourage us to pray, study God’s Word, pursue holiness, and persevere through trials. Faithful friends challenge us to become more like Christ, not more like the world. They speak truth in love, pray for us, and help us remain steadfast when life becomes difficult.

This verse is not a call to isolate ourselves from unbelievers. Jesus Himself spent time with sinners so that He could lead them to repentance and salvation. Rather, it is a reminder to guard our hearts and be intentional about the influences we allow to shape our lives. We are called to be a light in the world, but we must never allow the darkness of the world to dim our light.

Take a moment today to reflect on the people and influences surrounding your life. Do they draw you closer to God or farther away from Him? Ask the Lord for wisdom to build relationships that honor Him and to be the kind of friend who strengthens the faith of others. As you walk with those who love Christ, you will find your own faith becoming stronger and your desire to please God growing deeper.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the people You have placed in my life. Give me wisdom to choose friendships and influences that strengthen my walk with You. Protect my heart from anything that would lead me away from Your truth. Help me to be a positive influence on others, reflecting the love and character of Jesus in every relationship. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

Who has the greatest influence on your spiritual life today? Are those influences helping you grow closer to Christ, or are they slowly pulling you away from Him?
