Ask the Father in Jesus’ Name

Posted on July 20, 2026 harun By harun

Key Scripture

“And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.” — John 16:23 (KJV)

There are times when we wonder whether God truly hears our prayers. We may carry burdens that seem too heavy, face needs that appear impossible, or wait so long for answers that we begin to lose heart. Yet Jesus gave His disciples a wonderful promise before He went to the cross—a promise that still encourages every believer today.

Jesus was preparing His disciples for a new relationship with God. Soon He would complete the work of redemption through His death and resurrection. Because of His sacrifice, those who believe in Him would have direct access to the Father. No longer would they stand at a distance or wonder whether they were welcome. Through Christ, they could come boldly into God’s presence with confidence.

What a privilege it is to call the Creator of heaven and earth our Father. We do not pray because we deserve His attention. We pray because Jesus opened the way. His name is not a magical phrase we add to the end of a prayer. It represents His authority, His finished work, and our relationship with the Father through Him.

This promise also reminds us that God delights in hearing the prayers of His children. He is neither too busy nor too distant to listen. Every sincere prayer matters to Him. Every tear is seen. Every cry reaches His heart. Even when the answer does not come in the way or at the time we expect, we can be certain that our Father hears us and responds with perfect wisdom, love, and purpose.

As we bring our requests before God, we do so with faith, knowing that He always knows what is best. Sometimes He answers immediately. Sometimes He asks us to wait. At other times, He gives us something better than what we requested. Whatever His answer, we can trust that it flows from His perfect love.

Today, do not carry your burdens alone. Bring them to the Father in the name of Jesus. Lay every fear, every need, every dream, and every concern before Him. He invites you to come with confidence, knowing that you are welcomed as His child. The God who hears prayer is still working, still providing, and still accomplishing His perfect will in the lives of those who trust Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the privilege of coming into Your presence through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You that I do not have to live in fear or uncertainty but can bring every need before You with confidence. Strengthen my faith as I wait for Your answers, and help me to trust that Your plans are always better than my own. May every prayer I offer bring glory to Your name and align with Your perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

Is there a burden you have been carrying on your own? Today, bring it to the Father in the name of Jesus, trusting that He hears you, loves you, and will answer according to His perfect wisdom and timing.
